Tuneage Tuesday

"Tuneage Tuesday" is where I will be posting some of my new favorite songs. Sometimes they'll be connected with a book or series, and sometimes they're just stuck in my head randomly. Either way, new music is always good :]

This weeks tune is:
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" covered by Broken Social Scene
(Originally done by Joy Division)

Where you've heard it: From the movie "The Time Traveler's Wife"
(Also a fantastic book by Audrey Niffenegger)

Why I Love It: While I'm a huge Joy Division fan, this cover is simply amazing. When I hear it, my mind immediately jumps to a scene in an airport: two people staring across the terminal, having to leave each other... because sometimes, love just isn't enough.

Quotation Monday

Quotation Monday is something I've come up with to share some of my favorites quotes from really great novels, lyrics, movies, etc.

Today's quote comes from Kate Chopin's "The Awakening"

"...but whatever came, she had resolved never again to belong to another than herself."

There is something very empowering for women in The Awakening and this quote sums it up perfectly. Of course, there's heartache and loss, but at it's heart, I believe it is about keeping part of yourself, just for yourself. To not lose yourself in romantic relationships to the point where you don't even recognize who you are anymore. And as anyone who's ever been a teenager "in love" can admit, it's scary just how easily that can happen. I think it's all about breaking the enslavement's others have on you, and being free to belong to yourself. Anyway, this is a very fantastic, romantic classic and I highly recommend it.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Monday!

Sunday Series Spotlight: Georgina Kincaid

My friend Kate over at Epic (Chocolate) Fantasy is hosting "Series Spotlight". There have been tons of great books I have read, before starting this blog or even joining GoodReads, that I'm just dying to share with everyone else!

This Sunday's Series Spotlight is...

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
(Book 1 in the Georgina Kincaid series)

Georgina Kincaid is Seattle's own immortal succubus. She can changer her appearance at will, steal the souls of mortal men, play poker with her immortal friends (two vampires, an imp, an arch angel, and her demon boss who strikingly resembles John Cusack) and manage a bookstore where she can get all the free books and white chocolate mocha's she wants. Oh, and of course the chance to ogle famous writer Seth Mortensen. It's all in a days work for Georgina. Except something has come up in the demon world of Seattle. Something the has not only her demon boss agitated, but also the angles as well. What do heaven and hell have in common that they both hate so much? Georgina is about to find out.

Richelle Mead is best known for her YA series, Vampire Academy, but Georgina's life is just as interesting. I fell in love with this series when I first started reading it, and it was really what made me such a huge Richelle Mead fan. Georgina, despite being a succubus, is so relateable and funny. Not to mention, there's plenty of interesting scenes with hottie writer, Seth, and Georgina's smoldering dance partner, Roman.Georgina's life isn't easy, and her love life even less so. This is one series that will keep you on your toes until the very end.

"Dreaming Awake" by Gwen Hayes

Do you find yourself watching The Nightmare Before Christmas during the holiday seasons while the rest of your friends watch Rudolph? Enjoy half-demons with sex appeal? How about Alice in Wonderland? If you answered yes to any of these, then you should check out Dreaming Awake, book two of Falling Under.

*Warning: Spoilers to Falling Under (book one) are ahead*

Synopsis:
In the second novel to Gwen Hayes' Falling Under, Theia Alderson returns to her hometown of Serendipity Falls to discover that the time she spent in Under has changed her. She is struggling with demonic desires and her classmates are rapidly falling ill, possibly from Theia herself or her half-demon boyfriend, Haden Black. Can Theia overcome her new demon blood, or will it consume her, turning her into a monster? Not to mention the couple still has Haden's psycho demoness mother and queen of the Under world, Mara, chasing after them. It's only a matter of time before she finds them and punishes Theia for breaking her promise.

My Thoughts:
I was first introduced to this series by BookFairy JoJo, and immediately fell in love. It is a modern day Gothic twist on Alice in Wonderland, mixed in with Tim Burton's macabre talents. The plot is original and unique, which is something I always place a high importance on. The characters are wonderful and their relationships are solid and endearing. I love the connection between Theia and her two best friends, Donny and Ame. They're the kind of girls I wish I would have had around in high school. I also enjoy the dynamic of the group. It reminds me a little of the Scoobie Gang from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (always a good thing to be connected to. Joss Wheadon is a genius, after all). You had the boys who were trying to look after the girls, while in reality, the girls were totally more badass then the guys. The action was really amped up in this second book, making it quite an intense read.
I'm unaware of if there will be more in the series. I checked the authors site and could not locate anything more on it. However, I sincerely hope there will be, otherwise my rating might change haha.

My Rating: 4/5 Dancing Skeletons.

Teaser Pleasers:

  • "I thought of every strong woman I knew about- my mother, Muriel, my best friends... Buffy the Vampire Slayer..."
  • " 'Don't stop,' he said. 'You're the most wonderful dream in the world.'"

Whered'ja Go?

Sorry I've abandoned this project for almost a month now guys! So uncool of me. I've been busy with the flu and classes. I know, I know. No excuse, especially considering that I just started out on this. I promise to try and get better. In the mean time, here is some things that have been making me happy that you might enjoy too:

1. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It was a fantastic read guys. I put a review up on GoodReads, but I will eventually add one here as well. I strongly recommend it.

2. My Kindle Fire. Why oh why did I ever bother getting the Nook?! I love Amazon, and they're so much cheaper then Barnes and Noble!

3. This cover of "You're the One that I Want" by Angus and Julia Stone. There's just something hauntingly beautiful and true about her voice that really makes this cover worth while. I love it.

4.  How I Met Your Mother. I've become one of the millions of viewers addicted to Ted Mosby's love life. This show has such a fantastic quality. I'm constantly laughing (and sometimes crying) while watching it. The cast is EPIC and it is worth the 7 seasons of your time my friends.

Well, that's all for tonight guys, but I promise I will be more dedicated and keep this thing going. Hope all of you have a fantastic weekend!
